The Space
Square Footage 130,000
Location Mt. Pleasant, SC
As Mount Pleasant’s population began to grow northward and competing retailers entered the market, tenants began pulling out of this once vibrant shopping center in the heart of the ever-expanding town. Thirty-five years after opening its doors, long-time anchor tenant K-Mart finally vacated its 121,000-SF home with smaller tenants following suit; however, that’s when opportunity knocked. In a market vastly restricted by stringent zoning ordinances, major “big box” retailers were vying for the highly valuable commercial space on Bowman Road, making it prime for a major revitalization. In mere months, the old K-Mart footprint is transformed into Bowman Place, a six-parcel, 129-672-SF trendsetting retail and restaurant center with Dick’s Sporting Goods and Nordstrom Rack serving as co-anchors.

New life is breathed into the tired façade as existing store-front, colonnade, canopies and roofing are removed and then fitted with fresh masonry, EIFs and roofing. Foundations and structural steel framing provide support to the newly remodeled spaces. Existing interior finishes and demising walls are also removed, making way for new drywall, flooring, and finishes.

Entry signage, parking and landscaping receive a fresh facelift, while existing fencing, curbing, and sidewalks are demolished. A small section of the former strip center is also demolished, making room for improved access to the property.
