Since construction overlapped with the school’s academic year, the project team worked alongside the school’s faculty and staff to minimize disruption to everyday activities, including drop-off and pick-up of students, outdoor classes/events, regular class exchanges, and lunch breaks.
Midway through construction, the project team gave students, faculty, and staff tours of the new space, and later held a beam signing ceremony for students to leave their mark on the new structure. The beam was placed inside the gymnasium for students to see and revisit for years to come!
First and foremost, the focus for the team was the safety, efficiency, and benefits this institutional construction project offers students, faculty, and parents. The project scope included full sitework, relocation of the playground, additional parking, and a new access road for better traffic flow. The building construction is largely CMU throughout, with the exterior finishes combining brick, hardy siding, and large cast-stone accents.
Due to the site’s proximity to surrounding neighbors, who, in some cases, were directly adjacent to the school’s campus, Choate’s project team took great care to set up a safe and clean jobsite while also providing the school’s administration staff with regular updates about ongoing or future construction activities.
