Choate Construction Company had the pleasure of hosting its annual Women in Industry Kick-Off to the Year Ahead event, where nearly 100 women in the Architecture/Engineering/Construction (AEC) industry gather together to celebrate, empower, and support one another. More than just a networking event, this annual oyster roast and Lowcountry boil at Rivers + Glen Trading Co. provides an opportunity to continue building strong relationships and foundations for the future.
“Working in this industry, and personally, working at Choate is an honor. This commitment to invest in one another is a responsibility we embrace with tenacity,” said Quinn Balderson, Director of Business Development for Choate Construction’s Charleston division. “There is no greater joy than being surrounded by this amazing community.”
Hosted by Choate’s Women in Construction Employee Resource Group (ERG) and led by Balderson, the Women in Industry Kick-Off event serves as an important reminder that together, women in AEC constitute an impressive resource full of unique perspectives, varied talents, and a proclivity for building community. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, only 27% of professionals in architecture and engineering are women, and in construction, that number is just 10.9%.
As part of Choate’s commitment to fostering diversity and inclusion, this event and many others like it throughout the year, serve to recognize the achievements and contributions of women in the A/E/C industry and encourage them to grow their networks, leaning on one another as a resource to continue building their careers.
“The importance of uplifting the women who are changing the face of our industry is paramount,” said Matt Brewer, President & CEO of Choate. “Team members like Quinn and our Women in Construction ERG exemplify the spirit of innovation, ingenuity, grit, and community that continue to drive our industry towards a brighter future.”
