Choate Construction celebrates 30 exceptional years of operations in the city of Charlotte, NC. Commemorating this significant marker in Choate’s history, the Charlotte team came together to celebrate alongside many of the very people who made this milestone possible. It was a wonderful evening spent enjoying fun games and prizes, delicious food and drinks, and toasting the relationships that have been built over these many years.
Shortly after Dave Priester, retired CEO and current member of Choate’s Board of Directors, opened the Choate Charlotte office in 1993, it was off to the races with the Charlotte team winning its first major project award: Carolina Pavilion, an 850,000-SF retail space in Mecklenburg County. Supported in large part by Charlotte’s early success, Choate’s expansion in the Carolinas continued, establishing offices in Raleigh and Charleston. Just seven years after its founding, Choate’s Charlotte office reached an annual revenue of $100 million thanks to the strong partnerships with talented industry peers, and the grit and determination of the Choate Charlotte team.
To facilitate the continued growth in Charlotte, the team constructed and relocated to their new office space at Providence Plaza in 2007, creating the first privately held LEED Gold CI project in the city. Choate Charlotte’s Interior Division was established that same year, putting a name to the skilled team of individuals growing the office’s portfolio of interior construction work. In the same year the firm became 100% employee-owned (2016), the Charlotte office’s revenue exceeded $400 million and earned the top recognition from the North Carolina Department of Labor as a Building Star Safety Award winner. Fueled by a “Get Gritty” mentality, this team held and continues to hold a shared drive to support one another, embrace new challenges, and develop creative solutions with a relentless bias to action in order to exceed client expectations.
This teamwork and “ownership” spirit have driven the last three decades of success for Choate’s operations in Charlotte, just as they will continue to influence the many years to come.
We are so thankful for our clients, industry partners, and employee-owners and the impact they have had on our journey here, and we’re looking forward to the opportunities that lie ahead. Cheers to 30 years!
