Employee-Owners Write Hundreds of Letters to Veterans on Independence Day

July 5, 2023

Choate Construction Company employee-owners and families partner with Operation Gratitude for the firm’s Annual Veteran Letter Writing Event to connect with veterans and first responders across the country by writing heartfelt, hand-written letters of gratitude during a season when the country celebrates its cherished freedom. These letters are then added to care packages sent by Operation Gratitude to service members around the world.

“One of the most powerful takeaways from my time in the military came from watching these young men and women wake up every day prepared to give their time, their talents, their minds, and if necessary, their lives for our country,” says Matt Brewer, President & CEO of Choate Construction. “We owe these men and women so much, which is why I’m grateful to see our employee-owners express a desire to give back to the veterans in our community in this meaningful way.”

This yearly companywide event, organized by Choate’s Building Up philanthropic committee, was inspired by the passion for supporting US veterans and first responders shared by Choate Construction employee-owners across the Southeast. It serves as a way for Choate’s teams and their families to come together and offer words of encouragement, share their own life stories, and express gratitude for the incredible efforts of the nation’s deployed and retired service members.

Each of Choate’s six offices hosts a veteran guest speaker during the event to hear about their experiences and learn more about the importance of staying connected and showing appreciation for veterans. Choate’s employee-owners together wrote hundreds of letters to give thanks to the men and women who dedicated their lives to serving their country.

“The emphasis on supporting mental health in our veteran community is something we in the construction industry understand very well. It’s a special opportunity to lift up our nation’s heroes and remind them that they are not alone, not forgotten, and deeply appreciated,” says Brewer.
