Choate Construction Company is honored to announce the HUB for Community Innovation in Augusta has won first place in the Associated General Contractors of Georgia 2023 Build Georgia Awards! Housing several critical nonprofits in one centralized place, the HUB serves as an epicenter of resources for the local community to learn, grow, and thrive. In partnership with the Medical College of Georgia Foundation and the Hub Augusta Collaborative, Choate Construction, Christopher Booker & Associates, Cranston Engineering Group, and Electrical Design Consultants delivered this project in the Fall of 2022 alongside a talented team of trade partners.

In what was formerly a barren field located on the corner of Chafee Avenue and Fenwick Street bordering the Medical District and Harrisburg, the HUB for Community Innovation’s two-building campus serves as the new homebase for five critical community nonprofits.

In addition to the community support this mixed-use project provides, it was very unique in the sheer quantity of project stakeholders, two foundations, six non-profit tenants, three lenders, new-market tax credit financing, third-party program manager, and neighborhood constituents. “Balancing the needs of all these stakeholders while also working to complete a very aggressive schedule took a level of diligence and care that was far superior to any other project I’ve experienced in my career,” said Britton Miles, Choate Project Executive.

The HUB, located in historic African American neighborhoods, is a game-changer for a community that has experienced decades of disinvestment. By bringing existing resources and nonprofits together in one location, the project bolsters equitable access to all the essential elements of a thriving community. Access to free, quality healthcare as well as educational support provides the tools residents need in order to stay and thrive within their community.
