Municipal Grand Earns ABC of Georgia Award of Merit
Municipal Grand, located in Savannah's Downtown Historic District, has earned an Award of Merit from Associated Builders and Contractors of Georgia as part of its Excellence in Construction Awards.
Municipal Grand reimagines a 1960s-era banking landmark as a high-end hospitality destination for Midnight Auteur Hotels while preserving one of the city’s notable examples of International Style architecture.
The adaptive-reuse project required extensive coordination to introduce modern hotel amenities and building systems within the constraints of the existing concrete structure. Work included the addition of a rooftop pool, integration of a new egress stair within the existing building, and installation of modern MEP systems throughout the aging structural frame. Nearly every aspect of construction required the team to carefully reinforce, adapt, and build upon existing conditions while maintaining the architectural character of the original building.
The Award of Merit recognizes the craftsmanship, coordination, and problem-solving that went into bringing the project to life. It also marked one of three Excellence in Construction honors earned by Choate projects at this year’s ABC of Georgia awards.
Choate is proud to share the recognition with the project’s design and trade partners, including Lynch Associates Architects, PC, AAmp Studio, Tharpe Engineering Group, Method Engineering Group, and Ward Architecture + Preservation.
