Choate's relationship with Penske began with the renovation of an existing 400,000 SF compressor manufacturing plant into the headquarters for all Penske activities includes a complete interior demolition and upfit preceding a 200,440 SF race shop expansion complete with a 440-feet long catwalk where fans can overlook operations. Spaces also include parts storage, shipping and receiving, transporter parking, tire storage, chassis construction, body fabrication, setup, paint shop, and team offices.

Later additions include 30,000 SF of senior management operations, driver’s offices, reception area, conference rooms, auditorium, workout areas, locker rooms, cafeteria, IT and accounting, as well as Roger Penske’s private office. The Penske Porsche teams, which compete in the American Le Mans series, are housed in an additional 2,000 SF of renovated space. The Indy Racing Team is relocated to 40,000 SF of new space.

The 16,000-SF Carbon Fiber Body Shop contains a machine shop, carbon body trim shop with a central vacuum system, and new paint booths that is used for a carbon parts prep room. A 6,000-SF upfit accommodates the IRL Paint Shop and includes three paint booths, two offices, wet sanding bay, an assembly room and a carbon lay-up room.

A portion of the facility also supports the non-racing venture of Roger Penske, Ilmor Marine Engines. This 45,000-SF section of the facility is retrofitted into a manufacturing facility for marine engines. Penske has also awarded Choate smaller miscellaneous projects to the keep facility current with Penske’s growth and changing needs.
