Scope of Work
The project included a complete buildout, with installation of owner-supplied gym and cardio equipment, specialty flooring and turf systems, prefabricated saunas, cold plunges, lockers, and coordinated AV systems. The project team also enhanced the exterior of the structure, improving the façade, lighting, and landscaping while preserving the existing parking infrastructure. While coordinating HVAC replacement as well as a roof replacement, the team also navigated additional environmental considerations tied to the site’s brownfield status throughout construction.
A Facility Built for Every Type of Training
Carbon Charlotte will rank among the city’s largest gyms, with amenities designed to match upscale fitness and wellness clubs. The finished space includes over 220 pieces of equipment, from strength and cardio machines to cable stations and specialty equipment like pendulum squat machines from leading commercial brands. Beyond the equipment floor, the facility features a 2,000-SF women’s-only training area, a reformer Pilates studio, and a nutrition bar, rounding out an experience that goes beyond a traditional workout.

Meeting a Growing Community Need
Carbon’s expansion into Charlotte reflects a broader shift in what fitness communities are looking for: spaces that go beyond weights and machines to support recovery, wellness, and connection. As a first-time client, Carbon partnered with Choate to bring that vision to life on a site that required careful environmental infrastructure coordination from start to finish. The result is a facility positioned to serve the LoSo community for years to come, and a new relationship Choate is honored to have built along the way.
