Topping Out at Escent Research Park

August 21, 2020

Escent Researck Park, a four-story, 158,000-square-foot creative office space in the heart of University Research Park in Charlotte, recently held its socially-distanced topping out. Topping out is a major milestone for the project, signifying the completion of the structural component of the building.

“For us, the topping out of the structure is an ideal time to take a step back for a brief moment to acknowledge and celebrate the team’s efforts and achievements. In addition to thanking those involved, historically topping out celebrations also signify safe structure erection, and good luck for the remainder of construction,” says John Murphy, Senior Project Manager.

At Escent Research Park, the final precast panels (some towering higher than 60 feet!) are set in place and the remaining structural steel is tied in, allowing for removal of the temporary braces. Opening up the work areas around the building for a number of subs to mobilize, activities can commence on the architectural features of the building and surrounding areas. The topping out completes the 3-month journey since setting our first panel.

Escent Research Park is expected to deliver in 2021.
