Elbit America, Choate Celebrate Ribbon Cutting for Defense Manufacturing Facility

May 11, 2023

Elbit Systems of America and Childress Klein Properties partner with Choate Construction Company and MCA Architecture, Inc. to construct a 175,500-SF manufacturing facility in Palmetto Commerce Park in support of the international technology company’s expansion into South Carolina’s industrial community. To commemorate the completion of this project, a ribbon cutting ceremony was held on May 8th with esteemed guests in attendance.

“Working with our talented trade partners and the Elbit Systems team to bring its manufacturing operations to South Carolina has been an incredible opportunity,” says Tim Heichelbech, Vice President and Division Manager for Choate Construction. “The unique nature of this industrial build and its resulting impact on our community have been a privilege for our team to be a part of.”

The build-to-suit manufacturing facility is constructed out of 36′ cast-in-place, tilt walls with TPO roofing, and accommodates 14 overhead cranes used to add armor to military vehicles. As the facility also features an in-house paint booth and other materials specific to Elbit System’s manufacturing products, the unique nature of the company’s production process required customized design and calculated construction methods to optimize efficiency.

Elbit Systems develops and supplies a broad portfolio of airborne, land, and naval systems, and products for defense, homeland security, and commercial appliances. This facility is designed and built to support the contracts awarded to Elbit Systems by the Israeli Ministry of Defense (IMOD) for the supply of automatic self-propelled howitzer gun systems to the Israeli Defense Forces. The company also plans to base the assembly and integration efforts of other future programs for both the U.S. Department of Defense and the Department of Homeland Security at the facility.
