Choate Continues Partnership with Fourth Movement School – Southwest
November 29, 2021
Construction has begun at Movement School Southwest! This project will become the fourth of the Movement Schools Foundation‘s education facilities, serving students and families in southwest Charlotte with high-quality institutional construction. Movement Schools are a network of public, tuition-free charter schools serving students in elementary and middle school grades around the Queen City.
The site, former headquarters of iVerify security company, includes an existing building of more than 40,000 SF which is fully renovated and ultimately house approximately 500 students. A new main entrance, which includes an addition to the current building footprint, includes glass storefront that extends up beyond the existing roof to create an eye-catching and inviting lobby and reception area that will also welcome its students from both bus and parent drop-off locations each morning.
Featuring Pre-K through 5th grade classrooms, the school includes group/breakout rooms, a hybrid library and media center, indoor play area and multi-function room, catering kitchen, and cafeteria. The cafeteria and indoor play area are normally separated with an operable partition wall that can be retracted to join the two rooms to create a large indoor space for special functions. An outdoor seating area is added adjacent to the cafeteria; a rare feature that will afford students and staff the ability to dine or congregate outside.
Sitting on almost 15.5 acres, the institutional construction project offers potential for a second building or building expansion and landscaping features native wildflower, butterfly, and edible gardens. Movement School Southwest will be opening its doors to greet its students’ young, smiling and excited faces for the 2022 Fall Semester.
