Originally built in 1988, Resurgens Plaza is best known for offering the highest communal and collaboration space to solo space of any contemporary high-rise in the Southeast. Fast forward 30+ years later, and they are still at the forefront of improving workplace engagement and connectivity. The latest project includes an exciting rooftop oasis that features an extensive green roof and varied social spaces. Connection to nature not only adds enjoyment to the places where we work, it is also good for our health, and the environment.
Resurgens Plaza’s roof terrace presented a blank canvas for the project team. The challenge was bringing one of Atlanta’s most panoramic skyline experiences to life with lush greenery, heavy steel, and millwork, in the heart of a bustling downtown setting, located 14 stories above an occupied building.
Constructed on the roof of a high rise, all project materials had to be lifted within a tight environment. With a large mall, apartments, and MARTA train station next door, this was no easy feat, especially when coordinating lifts for steel structures. Careful coordination with our subcontractor, Steelfab, ensured the project remained on track. Due to the unique location and challenges posed by this project, Choate pulled in their in-house Virtual Design Construction (VDC) team. Choate’s VirtualWorks models allow the entire team to weigh options, analyze potential impacts, and eliminate conflicts before field personnel step onto the project site.
The result is an urban Eden with dramatic views of Atlanta. A place where employees can enjoy an environment that matches their values and lifestyle – spaces that are flexible, spark inspiration, and provide an oasis to recharge.
