Choate Project Named Best in the Nation for Second Year by ENR

April 14, 2016

Atlanta, GA (April 11, 2016) – Engineering News-Record magazine (ENR) released its national “Best of the Best Projects” winners for 2015, designed to identify the pinnacle of design and construction achievements in the entire U.S. among projects completed between June 2014 and June 2015. For the second year in a row, Choate Construction Company was awarded top honors for an interior renovation project.

Atlanta Tech Village, dubbed “the office of the future” by local media, is a collaborative office space for startup companies located in the heart of the Buckhead area of Atlanta, GA.  Atlanta Tech Village was awarded Best of the Best in the nation in the Best Interiors/Tenant Improvement category. In 2014, the Carter’s, Inc. headquarters in Atlanta, GA and also constructed by Choate, was awarded Best of the Best in the nation in the Interiors/Tenant Improvement.

Atlanta Tech Village’s existing six-story building received a complete interior and exterior renovation, transforming the outdated building into a trendsetting ecosystem of entrepreneurial work. Designed by Gensler, Atlanta Tech Village provides collaborative space attracting the area’s most talented creative startup companies. A sleek exterior façade, open and private office space, rooftop patio overlooking the skyline, nap rooms, and game rooms create the high-energy environment where 200+ startup companies can thrive.

Even with Buckhead’s high traffic volume and 60% building occupancy when construction began, Atlanta Tech Village’s 98,000-SF renovation completed on-time with zero safety issues and zero complaints during 15 months of non-stop construction.

Atlanta Tech Village is truly a pioneer concept for the Atlanta startup community, challenging the notions of a “typical” office space. David Cummings, Atlanta Tech Village founder, says: “We set out on this journey working alongside our partners and contractors to transform a traditional office building into an inspiring and modern place to build technology businesses, and together we have done just that. Our success can be measured in the number of people who call themselves Villagers, and I am proud of the team that worked all hands on deck since the beginning to make this dream a reality for us and all of the startups housed under our roof.”

ENR initially received more than 750 project teams submitting their finest work to the regional Best Projects competitions. In each of these 10 regions, the editors assembled panels of judges to select regional winners in 20 categories.

Once the regional winners were chosen, the top winners in each category from each region moved forward to the national competition. A new set of judges from across the country examined each project in an effort to distinguish the best of the best in terms of safety, innovation, overcoming challenges, teamwork, and quality.

“We are very honored to receive such esteemed industry recognition for our interior projects during the last two years,” Millard Choate, President of Choate Construction, said. “Everyone on the Atlanta Tech Village team should be incredibly proud of these accomplishments and for bringing such an innovative building to life.”

“Best of the Best Projects” winners are featured in the March 14, 2016 issue of ENR.
