Located within the largest research and technology park in the country, the Research Triangle Park (RTP) is a global conglomeration of science, technology, and industry. This epicenter of innovation was known as a place to work for thousands of people in the surrounding communities; however, places to gather and socialize, green spaces for activities, and places to live were only available outside of the RTP.
In an effort to shift the dynamic of the area, WhitePoint Partners set out to create Hub RTP – a 100-acre development that draws business, hospitality, retail, and multi-family developments to this region.
Choate was selected to deliver Horseshoe at Hub RTP, a flagship project at the heart of Hub RTP. This mixed-use project is designed to attract and retain top-tier talent and invite community members to enjoy the Research Triangle Park’s natural surroundings.
Office and Retail
Horseshoe at Hub RTP consists of two, one-story pavilions featuring 13,000 SF of restaurant and retail space, flanking a five-story office-over-retail mid-rise tower. The focal point of the horseshoe-shaped development, the 155,000-SF office tower, also provides space for retail on the ground floor below four floors of Class A office space.
Surrounding the Horseshoe are masterfully landscaped, elaborate courtyards, where community residents and guests can stroll along the streamside boardwalk, enjoy the visually stunning foliage and greenery, and relax on perfectly positioned benches throughout to connect with nature. Splash pads for children add to this vibrant live, work, play destination.
The scope of this project incorporates a 315,000-SF, multipurpose, precast parking deck with metal panels, offering visitors more than 1,000 parking spaces. A flat metal panel constructed on the exterior wall of the garage that faces the community areas provides the ideal space to project a movie or for well-placed advertising.

Horseshoe at Hub RTP creates a rich and bustling community within the largest research and technology park in the United States. RTP is a 7,000-acre global conglomeration of science, technology, and industry innovation that continues to revolutionize the meaning of a work, live, play development through luxury apartments, modernized office space, bustling retail, and 16 acres of parks and green space.
As the progress of this project occurs simultaneously with other elements of the Hub RTP development, open lines of consistent communication between fellow contractors, trade partners, and ownership is essential to a successful, safe delivery.
This project is designated as a NC Department of Labor Carolina Building Star project, a designation and partnership awarded to proactive contractors who uphold the highest standard of safety. This project will undergo rigorous inspections and audits to provide informative best practices that will promote safer work environments for jobsites across the industry.
