Choate Wins ABC Carolinas STEP Diamond Award

September 20, 2021

Choate Construction is pleased to announce it received the STEP Diamond Award by the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) Carolinas chapter. Presented at the 21st annual ABC Carolina’s Construction Convention, this award recognizes superlative safety performance across the industry.

In earning the STEP Diamond Award, Choate has proven to be 655% safer than the industry average provided by the National Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). Among additional safety performance criteria, companies must have an incident rate of at least 50% below the national BLS average.

This award would not be possible without the uncompromising efforts of Choate’s trade partners and project teams, who remain dedicated to Choate’s OneLife commitment and echo its message of preserving safety across jobsites and office locations. Choate works alongside both the North Carolina and South Carolina Occupational Safety and Health Administrations in partnership programs to eliminate serious hazards, while enhancing workplace health and safety.

“Our trade partners are critical to this recognition by the ABC Carolinas. In addition to our project teams, superintendents, and safety managers, our trade partners are fully engaged in our OneLife identity on all our project’s day in and day out,” says Chad Hart, Choate Corporate Safety Director. “Their commitment to maintaining a safe work environment – especially in the midst of a global pandemic – is what makes this such a stand-out safety culture.”

“I’m grateful to have such amazing teams here at Choate that are relentlessly focused on advancing the safety culture in our company and the construction industry.” says Choate President and CEO Matt Brewer. “Over the years, we have poured our hearts and resources into developing a unique safety identity, OneLife, that highlights the importance of protecting the life and legacy of our people, our partners, and our communities.”
