Choate Enacts Fourth Strategic Partnership with U.S. DOL and AGC Georgia for Savannah’s 111 Ann Street Mixed-Use Project

January 12, 2022

Choate Construction Company has signed a strategic partnership with the U.S. Department of Labor Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the Associated General Contractors (AGC) of Georgia for the mixed-use project, 111 Ann Street in historic downtown Savannah. This is the second strategic partnership Choate’s Savannah Division has entered with OSHA and the fourth in the company’s history. Georgia Tech Enterprise Innovation Institute – Safety, Health, and Environmental Services Group also assisted in the development of this partnership and will provide continued support.

“Through Choate’s OneLife program and identity, we’re not only driven to preserve the health and safety of every worker on Choate’s projects, but to also include the entire construction community in our initiatives,” says Javier Pabón, Safety Director for Choate’s Savannah operations. “Our goal with this strategic partnership is to encourage a collaborative, proactive safety culture between construction companies and OSHA, while providing our trade partners with skills, information, and resources they can apply to future jobsites.”

The shared objectives and goals of the partnership aim to mitigate jobsite injuries and illness, increase safety and health training, reduce worker exposure to health and safety hazards, and increase the number of employers with safety and health management systems. Developing a contractor/government partnership approach to safety management such as this allows for better use of OSHA resources and promotes innovation in safety practices.

111 Ann Street consists of a six-story, mixed-use building offering more than 230 residential units,  premium amenities, and retail space. The 245,800-SF facility is located just steps away from Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd in the prime of Savannah’s Historic District, offering residents and patrons quick access to all the city has to offer.

111 Ann Street is the first Cross-Laminated Timber (CLT) structure in Savannah, which consists of prefabricated panels made up of layered lumber boards that are glued together to create a solid, minimal-waste structure.
