Choate Receives CAGC Awards for Community Service and Safety
August 25, 2023
Choate Construction Company is honored to announce it has been presented with the Community Impact Award and the Presidential Award for Safety Excellence by the Carolinas Associated General Contractors (CAGC). Received at the 2023 CAGC Summit and Expo, the Community Impact Award recognizes the commitment firms have demonstrated to serving their Carolina communities, and the Presidential Award for Safety Excellence celebrates firms with zero lost time accidents in 2022.
“It’s an incredible honor to receive these two awards on behalf of our teams at Choate,” says Tim Heichelbech, Vice President and Division Manager for Choate Construction in Charleston. “Community service and safety are some of the most important things that drive our trade partners and employee-owners every day, and these awards celebrate their collective efforts.”
Stewardship has been a core value of Choate since its foundation more than 30 years ago. Putting a face to the philanthropic spirit at the firm, Choate created its Building Up identity and program, which raised more than $1.26 million for charitable organizations in its inaugural year alone. Through both companywide initiatives and office-specific passion projects, Choate’s Philanthropy in Action has helped facilitate tangible changes for communities in the Carolinas. Beyond the monetary impact of Building Up, Choate employee-owners have dedicated countless hours to organizations such as Inter-Faith Food Farm, Lowcountry Orphan Relief, the American Heart Association, AutismStrong, the South Carolina Aquarium Association, and 80+ other local and regional nonprofits.
“Our trade partners are critical to this recognition by the CAGC. In addition to our project teams, superintendents, and safety managers, our trade partners are practicing the OneLife mission on projects day in and day out,” says Chad Hart, Choate Corporate Safety Director. “The unified commitment of our teams to maintaining proper safety practices is what enabled us to have zero lost time accidents in 2022.”
Choate’s unique OneLife safety identity and program goes beyond compliance-based safety practices, focusing on a culture of safety that touches the heart. On and off the jobsite, team members are encouraged to consider their life and legacy in the context of loved ones, as well as the loved ones of their fellow workers, to ensure everyone goes home safely at the end of the day.
