Shepherd 2020 Renovation

The project doubled the size of the Multiple Sclerosis Clinic by relocating it into the former Pain Clinic, adding more than 20 day rooms, and introducing 35 patient beds to the space. Renovated office areas and a refreshed main lobby and ground-floor corridors rounded out the scope, all completed while the hospital remained in full operation throughout construction.

Shepherd and Choate’s partnership is successful because of the shared commitment to putting people first. Understanding each other’s priorities and listening to what’s important allowed both teams to work together to find solutions that created the best outcomes for everyone involved. That partnership, now spanning more than 20 years, became the foundation this project was built on.

To connect the new Level 6 patient floor, the project team accessed occupied patient rooms on Level 5 in careful phases while the hospital remained fully operational. Detailed planning and close coordination between Shepherd and Choate kept disruptions to patients and staff to a minimum throughout the work.

Main floor corridor renovations required closing large sections of the hospital’s hallways for terrazzo and finish upgrades while maintaining safe access to elevators, patient care areas, and the parking deck. The project team phased the work and rerouted pedestrian traffic, balancing operational needs with maintaining the project schedule.
