Located on the site of the old Kannapolis Intimidators MiLB stadium, the site requires 300,000 CY of mass excavation and adds 60,000 CY of mass trench rock to achieve a balanced site. Each of the three industrial facilities consist of tilt-up concrete, structural steel, and joist and deck roofing. Additionally, an external precast fire pump house and bore water line are added to provide quick service to the industrial park in the event of an emergency.
Amidst construction of this industrial project, the Choate team identified an osprey nest, a federally protected bird species. In an effort to preserve the nest and avoid potentially harmful disruption, the team maintained the existing light tower until the bird vacated after roughly three months, at which point construction in the designated area resumed.
In addition to the wildlife considerations, the project team persevered through persistent rainy conditions to keep the project moving on schedule.
