Engaging the Local Community
Reflecting the clients’ commitment to community engagement, Choate prioritized the involvement of local and minority-owned contractors wherever possible. The team also hosted several trade partner participation events at the beginning of the project to connect with local businesses and encourage involvement beyond the contracted scope.
In partnership with the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Augusta, Choate hosted jobsite tours for 20 to 25 students ages 14 and older during structural erection and MEP rough-in. Each tour included a classroom-style introduction to architecture, engineering, and construction disciplines, followed by a site walk where students could see those processes and technologies in action. The experience offered valuable exposure to the industry and its career opportunities.
Perseverance Through Challenges and Precision Through VDC
The project began just as the pandemic hit, but the team persevered in the face of uncertainty, assuring the owner and stakeholders the aggressive timeline would still be met, even as costs continued to escalate during the project.
Details for a project of this caliber were vetted extensively through Choate’s Virtual Design + Construction (VDC) team to determine clash detection and coordination of materials. These models were a vital tool and ensured nothing was re-worked after materials were installed.
