The Avalon is an 86-acre mixed-use development in the heart of Alpharetta, Georgia. Amidst the construction of the apartments and shops, Choate Interior Construction was tasked to construct the following retail stores, restaurants, and office spaces.
Bonobos, an e-commerce-driven apparel company headquartered in New York City that designs and sells men’s clothing, opens its first brick-and-mortar Georgia “Guideshop” in the Buckhead Atlanta complex. The retailer of men’s pants, suits, denim, shirts, shorts, swim and outerwear is a place for customers to try merchandise on for size and get styling advice from customer service “ninjas,” who then help them create their wardrobe from the website.
The 900-SF interior retail fit-up of a shell space includes a front of house merchandising area and a back of house office and stockroom. Features include installation crown molding, paint, installation fo owner furnished lighting fixtures and concrete overlay with polished/dyed concrete.
Located on the first floor at the Avalon mixed-use development in Alpharetta, Georgia, this renowned retail home store Crate & Barrel is constructed into an existing structure. To minimize conflicts and maximize structural and design coordination, the VirtualWorks team conducted a point cloud scan of that corner of the Avalon development. Accurate to 1/10th of an inch, the team was then able to “build” the Crate & Barrel and its components digitally within exact conditions.
Clad in the quintessential Crate & Barrel “warm contemporary” style, the exterior facade features a 54’x3’ decorative louver, curtainwall windows, stained cedar siding, thin brick panels and a custom wood storefront with Pella windows. The curve of the rotunda on the residential building above transfers down to the Crate & Barrel facade below.
Inside the store, the finishes reflect the brand from top to bottom with the use stained cedar and painted pine on the ceiling of the sales area, while the walls are clad in thin brick, cedar, and alder siding. The floor is comprised of a hardwood floor over a sleeper system and tile set with the thickset method.
El Felix, the “Tex-Mex” inspired restaurant by the famous Chef Ford Fry’s Texan roots, comes to life in a 7,000-SF space. Alongside other high-end retail and restaurant spaces, the restaurant brings the feel of Austin, TX, to suburban Georgia with a casual and lively atmosphere. Finishes in the space include custom masonry block, concrete counter tops, stained concrete floors, blackened tooled metals, and a custom steel door package lining the exterior patio
IDR, an IT staffing and solutions company, relocates their headquarters office to Alpharetta, GA. Located on the second level of the Avalon mixed-use development, IDR’s office is constructed in prime, first generation tenant space. The 5,700-SF office consists of four private offices, three expandable team rooms, and open office areas. Reclaimed wood plank walls plus exposed structural and mechanical systems create a modern, rustic feel. The centralized break area, highlighted by linear light fixtures in a starburst pattern, allows employees to relax in banquette seating.
Flywheel Sports specializes in spin classes and ballet bar style training called “Flybarre.” This sheek studio is 4,700 SF and includes an extensive HVAC and plumbing package along with a glass entry, rubber gym flooring, installation of specialty soundproof walls and ceilings, and a custom millwork package installation mark the space with Flywheel’s contemporary look. Branded sound-proof walls and acoustics ensure noise is under control.
