Choate Selected for Sisters Court Historic Preservation and Redevelopment

Savannah, GA (February 19, 2016) – Historic renovation and redevelopment will soon be underway at the corner of 37th Street and Habersham in Savannah’s Historic District. Following an extensive review process overseen by the National Parks Services, Choate Construction Company has been selected by National Church Residences, the non-profit provider of affordable senior housing that owns Sisters Court Apartments, as General Contractor for the highly anticipated 76,000-SF development.

With portions originally constructed in 1882, the facilities are listed on the National Register of Historic Places and the Georgia Register of Historic Places. Designed by Foley Design Associates Architects, extensive measures have been taken to ensure the successful transformation of this historic gem by honoring the past and preserving the future. This project includes the historic renovation of an existing four-story building, the renovation of an existing two-story building, the complete demolition of an existing three-story building, and the addition of a four-story building. Combined, the facility will feature 78 residential units and common spaces for the elderly. Each apartment home is designed to provide the utmost in comfort and privacy, and enable residents to live healthier and more satisfying lives.

Construction of additional space will house 21 residential units and include common areas such as a laundry facility, recreation and fitness zones, computer rooms, and additional support areas.

Renovations will include the repair or replacement of existing historic windows, exterior and interior trim, appliances, door hardware, bathroom fixtures, interior storm windows, and kitchen cabinets. All existing apartments are refreshed with updated floor and wall finishes as well as updated HVAC, electrical and plumbing systems.
