Martin Luther King Sr. Community Resources Complex Dedicated on Sunday

November 5, 2012

Ebenezer Baptist Church dedicated the Martin Luther King Sr. Community Resources Complex on Sunday, November 4, 2012. The church has “partnered with four nonprofits to provide a one-stop shop of comprehensive services for struggling families in the Old Fourth Ward and throughout the Atlanta metro area,” said the Rev. Raphael G. Warnock, senior pastor of Ebenezer. The $8 million faith-based construction project will be fully operational by January 2013.

Former Atlanta mayor and U.N. Ambassador Andrew Young delivered the sermon at the morning services, followed by the dedication ceremony with a ribbon cutting at the Community Resources Complex’s front door.

Architect Stanley Love Stanley worked with Ebenezer Baptist Church to design the building as a memorial to the work of the Rev. Martin Luther King Sr., the father of civil rights icon the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. It will house some of his memorabilia, sermons and papers. Also on display in the music suite is the organ that his wife, Alberta Christine Williams King played during Ebenezer services.

Additional features of the faith-based construction include an assembly hall with a full kitchen, cyber café, choir room, offices, classrooms, and a three-story atrium. The addition serves as a worship, fellowship, and gathering area for the substantial congregation.

The structure is comprised of a steel frame with a full brick, cast stone, and glass exterior.

Also included on the building team was Capital Commercial Development Group.
