Choate Volunteers at Junior Achievement

January 6, 2014

A team of volunteers spent a day volunteering and teaching at Junior Achievement’s Finance Park in Atlanta, Georgia. To demonstrate how to budget, save and invest, the program assigns each student a new identity including a job, income, education level, and family scenario. Choate’s eager volunteers acted as guides on how to make financial decisions such as household budget, using banking services, and making purchasing and investment decisions.

“Our 22-person team that staffed Finance Park for Junior Achievement for one day the week before Christmas received an early Christmas present themselves. Being surrounded by an energetic group of one hundred and forty seventh graders was a challenging but very rewarding opportunity. JA is driving real-world responsibilities and skills into our children and the wonderful setting that opened in the GWCC is such a unique simulation that our team fell right into character as bankers, retail operators and other walks of life. It is not only a great team-building event for our firm, but also rewarding in the knowledge that we are helping to enrich the lives of our students. It was a fun and tiring day. I’d suggest it to anyone! We’re going back ourselves in the Spring!” said Mike Hampton, COO of Choate Construction Company.
