Choate Receives National Award from Cystic Fibrosis Foundation

May 28, 2019

Choate Construction was recently announced as the recipient of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s (CFF) Spirit of American Award at the National Volunteer Leadership Conference in San Diego, CA.

In honor of the Choate’s nearly 30-year quest to cure cystic fibrosis, the Spirit of American Award, named for longtime CFF supporter American Airlines, is the highest corporate honor the CF Foundation bestows. Choate joins a prominent group of other award winners such as Chubb Insurance, FedEx, Kroger, Unum and Toshiba.

Choate Construction began supporting the cystic fibrosis cause almost 30 years ago when founder Millard Choate’s daughter’s best friend, Leann Ott, was diagnosed with the disorder as a toddler. At the time, the life expectancy was 13 years old. Since then, as the company grew, so too did the employees’ support of the cause and the CF Foundation.

Today, Choate supports the CF Foundation in all six of its offices, with sponsorships, volunteers, and even events created by Choate. From hiking to galas, cars to clay shoots, Choate employee owners are engaged in a united, steadfast commitment to cure cystic fibrosis and have raised over $3.5 million date.

Choate recently completed two successful Spring events for CF; Choate’s XTREME Hike, which raised $100,000 and the award-winning Cars & ‘Q for the Cause, which raised $521,000.
Cystic fibrosis is a life-shortening genetic disease that affects the lungs and digestive system; those with CF have an average life expectancy of approximately 40 years old. Affecting only 30,000 people in the U.S., research for treatment is primarily funded by the CF Foundation via private donors, such as Choate Construction.

This award comes at an exciting time for CFF, as a groundbreaking triple combination treatment paves the way for a therapy that could address 90% of the people suffering from this cruel disease.
