Choate Construction Celebrates One-Year Anniversary of “OneLife” Safety Identity

September 30, 2016

Atlanta, GA — Choate Construction Company recently celebrated the one-year anniversary of their “OneLife” safety identity, a visual representation of the company’s unwavering commitment to worker safety.

The OneLife identity is designed to positively engage everyone it encounters and challenge them to make safe decisions for their life, their family, and their legacy. The logo can be found on all Choate safety and personal protective equipment (PPE), site signage, and other collateral with the intent of giving a face to the critical personal choices that workers must face each day. In every office and jobsite the “I Work Safe For” banner is displayed, where each employee has handwritten the names of the loved ones that depend on their safe return home. This banner is a constant reminder to all of the personal reasons to make safe decisions.

As a direct result of OneLife, Choate has seen a dramatic shift in how projects are managed. Safety is a core value at Choate, and this belief is seen throughout every level of the organization. OneLife has given Choate’s project supervisors the tools to connect with workers on an individual level, allowing them to take personal responsibility to work safely to return home each day.

“Each day, Choate represents thousands of families that depend on their loved ones’ safe return home. The OneLife identity was born to be a constant visual reminder to all of this monumental responsibility,” said Millard Choate, President of Choate. “One year later, OneLife continues to encourage our workforce to remain engaged and committed to working safely. The positive effects OneLife has had on our culture of safety are evident throughout our jobsites and offices.”

In addition to OneLife, eight full-time safety professionals enhance Choate’s safety program and create an environment where safety is at the forefront of every situation. The safety team enhances the focus Choate has for safety in a “no fear” environment.

“OneLife has provided Choate an outlet to personally connect with our workforce about safety,” Corporate Safety Director Chad Hart said. “By encouraging employees to report safety concerns without fear of retributions, we have created a “no fear” environment where workers are empowered to speak up and share their concerns.”

Choate has been the recipient of various prestigious safety related awards in 2016 including:

  • NCDOL Gold Safety Award
  • Associated Builders and Contractors Gold STEP Award
  • Carolinas AGC Presidential Award for Safety Excellence
  • National Association of Women in Construction Safety Excellence Award
  • AGC Ron Amerson Supervisor Safety Award received by 40 Choate Superintendents
