Choate Charleston Announces New Division Manager

January 29, 2020

Congratulations to Tim Heichelbech on his promotion to Division Manager of Choate Charleston! Formerly Charleston’s Director of Operations, Tim is now responsible for establishing and executing the overall business strategy for the Charleston office.

Beginning his career in as a Project Engineer in Charlotte, NC he quickly realized his love for construction and the operations process.  He rose through the ranks with highlight projects such as Tuomey Hospital in Sumter, SC; the Brenner’s Children’s Hospital in Winston Salem, NC; and the Roper Hospital Tower & Parking Deck in Charleston, SC.

After touring the Southeast for healthcare-related projects, Tim permanently relocated to Charleston for the Roper Hospital project, where he worked on 40+ projects in and around the Lowcountry area over the last 20 years.

“A particularly notable project for me was the College of Charleston Basketball Stadium located on historic Meeting Street in downtown Charleston, SC,” says Tim.  “This high-profile project was the described by the architect as building a “ship in a bottle,” due to the zero-lot line logistics constraint, complex structure, envelope and aggressive schedule for a planned ESPN Tournament. This project taught me so much: highly-coordinated logistics, a renewed commitment to safety, and the value of teamwork.”

Tim joined Choate Construction in 2013 as the Director of Operations, where he oversaw all project-related operations for the Charleston office and capitalized on his strong client, industry and community relationships.

“Tim has proven to be an exemplary leader and understands the value of building relationships as much as structures,” says Matt Brewer, President.  “I look forward to working with him in his new role.”

“Choate Construction and the Charleston market are both experiencing exciting, strategic growth.  I’m excited to continue to work with our Charleston employee-owners to further our presence in the Lowcountry area and ensure delivery of exceptional outcomes to our valued clients,” says Heichelbech.

Tim is a graduate of Purdue University with a bachelor’s degree in Construction Engineering.  He also holds a Masters of Construction Science & Management from Clemson University, where he now serves on the Executive Advisory Board for the Construction Science & Management program.  Additional affiliations include:

  • US Green Building Council – LEED AP BD&C
  • American Institute of Constructors (AIC) – member and certified as a Professional Constructor
  • Carolinas Association of General Contractors (CAGC) – Past Co-Chair of South Carolina AIA/AGC committee
