The Space
  • Two Green Globes certification for New Construction
Square Footage 38,000
Location Winston Salem, NC
Repeat client Modern Automotive upgrades their existing Modern Toyota of Winston-Salem dealership with a complete demolition of their existing showroom and service write-up areas. A 38,000-SF showroom and sales facility plus service write-up is constructed, allowing the dealership to better align with Toyota’s current brand. The existing building is abated of asbestos prior to demolition. Once demolished, the upgraded showroom and sales facility is constructed with structural steel and CMU. The exterior facade is adorned in an attractive combination of aluminum composite panels, EIFS, and curtainwall. High-end finishes are installed throughout the showroom, creating a space for customers to relax while their vehicles are serviced. Temporary facilities are available throughout construction allowing the dealership to remain fully operational.

The Modern Toyota family seeks to foster an eco-friendly environment for their customers, employees, and the community in which they live, work and play. Modern prides itself on elevating future generations through environmental stewardship and sustainability.

Through the integration of 355 solar panels placed on the roof, canopy supported charging stations, and innovative technologies, Modern supports the reduction of their environmental impact. By designing to a “Green” standard, this building produces cleaner indoor air, reduces carbon emissions, conserves water, and provides a healthier space for each individual person that visits the facility.

Sustainability highlights:

    • Building is 24.4 % more energy efficient than traditionally built building
    • 113kW solar array off-sets building energy usage by 20.16%
    • 79% of total construction waste was diverted from landfill
    • 18% of building materials have an environmental product declaration
    • Low-flow fixtures are installed to conserve on average 20% more water
