Building a New-Age Showroom from the Ground Up

Defining the sleek, modern exterior is the Porsche-branded curved aluminum façade, complemented by the red Porsche logo. As part of the first phase of construction, the 36,000-SF, two-story showroom features a floor-to-ceiling glass curtain wall system and perforated metal panel ceilings with LED recessed lighting to invite a wash of natural light to the interior. The showroom also includes a stainless steel and glass infill monumental staircase to greet clients and staff with the exclusivity that defines Porsche products.

The entryway to the showroom is reinvigorated with a stunning new light slot curtain wall, as well as timeless interior finishes like porcelain tile, intricate metal ceiling panels illuminated by LED lighting and frameless glazing. The mezzanine offers clients a lounge with floor-to-ceiling windows that provide a birds-eye view into the sales floor below, with additional space for relocated electrical and mechanical systems.

Automatic sliding pocket doors, a custom-built reception desk, stylish quartz countertops, and detailed millwork provide a polished welcome for clients. These features offer a taste of the high-quality service customers can expect from the staff at Johnson Automotive‘s Porsche dealership.

Working in a highly trafficked area and in close proximity to the Maryland National Guard Armory and a radio tower, Choate closely collaborated with trade partners to create a detailed logistics plan that ensured a safe jobsite and respectful environment for the project’s neighbors.

Dealership Renovation within an Occupied Space

Phase two of this automotive project involved the renovation of the former Sales and Service departments to transform the space into a new service department and additional business offices. The 22,000-SF interior renovation and exterior improvements include new service bays and administrative offices throughout the building that reflect Porsche’s luxury brand standards.

The exterior was refreshed with a new facade clad with a combination of aluminum composite material (ACM) panels, corrugated metal panels, and frameless glazing. The building was painted black in alignment with Porsche’s brand standards, and high-speed, full-view overhead Rytec Spiral FV doors prevent air leakage and provide a modern, sleek appearance. Clinker floor tile is featured throughout the service building, with a car wash, parts department, and battery storage facility attached.
