Located in North Charleston, SC overlooking the Cooper River, the Zucker Family Graduate Education Center provides space for Clemson University students to achieve masters and Ph.D. degrees in a contemporary, green setting. Sitting adjacent to the award-winning Clemson SCE&G Energy Innovation Center, students have the opportunity to utilize innovative technology in the award-winning energy testing facility completed by Choate Construction in 2014.
At the site of a former naval warehouse, deep pile foundations and cast-in-place concrete slabs give way to the main building structure comprised of structural steel beams and columns. Nothing short of school spirited, the ACM façade wrapping around the building reflects the familiar Clemson orange.
Highlights of the facility include intimate classrooms, open studio space, offices, a high-tech computer lab, collaborative conference rooms, and green screen area. The penthouse rooftop offers striking views of the Cooper River with the everyday bustle of passing cargo ships to nearby ports. Designed to LEED Silver certification, sustainable features include remediation of a brownfield site, installation of a green roofing system, and energy-efficient HVAC and electrical systems.
Bound to shape the Lowcountry’s engineering landscape for generations to come, the Zucker Family Graduate Center echoes Clemson University pride in this world-class center of excellence.
