The Rolling Road Wind Tunnel is a research and development facility geared toward NASCAR and other types of automobile racing. The facility creates an aerodynamic testing environment by using both a rolling road and a wind tunnel to simulate on track racing conditions at speeds up to 180 MPH. This facility is the first of its kind in North America and only the third in existence worldwide.
The building has three delineated areas that house the test cell and control room, customer work areas and administrative offices. The project is constructed of cast-in-place concrete, load-bearing CMU and structural-steel framing; project finishes have both high-level finishes in the office areas and industrial finishes in the customer work areas and the test cell.
The project received the 2008 “Excellence in Construction” award from the ABC of the Carolinas for it superior innovation, quality of construction and safety performance.
