Created and constructed out of love, Staplehouse restaurant donates proceeds to The Giving Kitchen, a nonprofit designed to support restaurant industry workforce that fall on hard times. Choate donates services to rehabilitate an existing two-story building in Atlanta’s Old Fourth Ward district.
With a full bar and open kitchen, the interior space features exposed second-story wood framing, two sets of stairs to the upper level, and exposed sealed brick interior walls. Custom millwork includes a chef’s table, bar, upholstered booths and banquettes, replacement custom windows and the restoration of the existing historical storefront, which was covered up for a number of years.
The project also features upgraded electrical service, 1500 gallon in-ground grease trap, and HVAC system complete with a grease exhaust hood, exhaust fan, and make-up air unit.
Set adjacent to the rail yard on Dekalb Avenue, the restaurant features a private “backyard” area with a patio and separate out-building containing a walk-in cooler and prep area.
In addition to the restaurant, the two-story building accommodates the offices of The Giving Kitchen.
Staplehouse is the evolution of late chef Ryan and Jen Hidinger’s supperclub, A Prelude to Staplehouse. When Ryan was diagnosed with Stage IV gallbladder cancer, the restaurant community banded together in support of first Team Hidi, and after Ryan’s passing, Staplehouse and The Giving Kitchen.
