The South Carolina Ports Authority (SCPA), owner and operator of terminals at the Port of Charleston, Port of Georgetown and Inland Terminals of Dillion and Greer, relocates existing corporate operations to a new 79,403-SF, design-build facility at the Wando Welch Terminal in Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina. The conventional steel-frame structure is supported by 14-inch precast concrete piles with a 10-inch structured slab and is anchored with a first-floor base of manufactured stone veneer. The remaining three floors offer expansive views through the full-glass curtainwall system to the Wando Welch Terminal operations. The remaining skin components are a mixture of locally manufactured Charleston brick and ACM panels.
The impressive level of detail beginning in the atrium is carried throughout the entire building with custom finishes of terrazzo flooring made to replicate an aerial waterway map of the Charleston Harbor, sleek porcelain tile, and custom alder wall panels. Bridges, open meeting areas, adjacent meeting rooms, and a monumental stair encourage interaction and collaboration between SCPA departments. The fourth floor, home to the CEO’s office, is set slightly back creating a penthouse offering full operational views. The SCPA corporate logo is found illuminated and hanging on the wooden wall panels of the fourth floor.
