Atlanta Silverbacks Park is the home to Atlanta’s men’s and women’s professional soccer teams, the Silverbacks. The 3,000-seat stadium includes such features as individual seating with backs, state-of-the-art lighting, concession stand, permanent restrooms, and team locker rooms. The seating starts just 15 feet off of the sideline, making any seat an engaging view.
The signature element of the stadium is the 15-foot wide elevated concourse that wraps around the entire stadium field serving as excellent gathering areas and allowing prime views to all three soccer fields.
This project, split into phases, involves the complete transformation of a highly visible 20-acre plot of land directly adjacent to Atlanta’s Spaghetti Junction intersection.
Previously serving as a drive-in movie theater, the extensive asphalt paving is removed and hauled off at the start of the project. Some 7,000 cubic yards of mass rock is blasted to create an area to support three full-size, lighted soccer fields. All fields are constructed of artificial turf in order to survive the heavy foot traffic experienced at the facility, both professional and recreational; irrigation systems keep the fields cool during the summer.
Much of the blasted rock material was crushed and screened on-site to reuse as the drainage base for the fields and stabilization base for pavement.
